Border Trade: Exporters and Merchants Join Forces to Boost Commerce with Haiti
On March 6, 2026, the Asociación de Exportadores Fronterizos de Cemento y Materiales de Construcción (Asoexpofroncem) and the Federación Dominicana de Comerciantes (FDC) announced an agreement aimed at strengthening Dominican exports to Haiti.
The initiative seeks to stimulate bilateral trade while supporting the development of communities located along the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
According to Carlos Morillo, president of Asoexpofroncem, the project goes beyond strictly commercial objectives and aims to improve living conditions in border areas.
Both organizations have committed to coordinating their efforts to increase economic competitiveness and stability in this strategic region. The agreement comes amid a regional context marked by economic and security challenges.
Regional Security: Dominican Republic Joins International Agreement Against Narcoterrorism
At the same time, the Dominican Republic signed an agreement on March 6, 2026, with the United States and 19 other countries from Latin America and the Caribbean to strengthen regional cooperation against narcoterrorism.
The agreement was concluded in Miami during the conference “Américas contra los carteles.”
Convened by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the initiative includes measures to reinforce border security, coordinate operations against criminal networks, protect critical infrastructure and expand intelligence sharing among participating states.
Washington also warned that it could act independently if countries in the region fail to strengthen their commitment to combating these networks.
The initiative precedes the “Escudo de las Américas” summit, which Donald Trump is expected to lead in Miami alongside several Latin American leaders.
