U.S. Sanctions: Leslie Voltaire Reacts and Calls for a Haitian Solution

Port-au-Prince, January 31, 2026 — Targeted by U.S. sanctions, Leslie Voltaire took to X (formerly Twitter) to issue a public statement emphasizing national dignity, political dialogue, and the search for a strictly Haitian solution to the ongoing crisis.

In his message, Voltaire stated he relies on “the wisdom given by age and the strength of the history my country carries” to face the situation. He argued that “a country does not only fall when a foreign force invades it, but truly falls when fear replaces courage in the heart of every citizen.”

Voltaire accepted the responsibility of building a future for the youth, envisioning a nation where justice prevails and security is a reality rather than a dream. He presented himself as a man of consensus, aiming to “heal the fractures in the nation’s backbone” through ongoing discussions with political forces.

Regarding the loss of his U.S. visa due to the sanctions, Voltaire downplayed its personal impact. “Losing a visa does not shake me,” he declared, adding that his real concern is the potential loss of Haiti’s “freedom, sovereignty, and dignity.”

As February 7 approaches—a symbolic date in Haitian politics—Voltaire called for collective mobilization to “write a Haitian solution and pave the way for genuine democratic elections.” He urged the nation to show the world that a people’s dignity can withstand any external pressure.
