In the Dominican Republic<\/span><\/span>, authorities have simultaneously strengthened border security operations and launched preparations for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Between January and April 2026, the Dominican Army<\/span><\/span> (ERD) arrested 57,454 migrants in irregular status, the majority coming from Haiti<\/span><\/span>. In total, 256 suspects were referred to the public prosecutor for migrant smuggling and other offenses.<\/p>\n

Those detained were transferred to the General Directorate of Migration<\/span><\/span> (DGM) for repatriation procedures. Operations were primarily concentrated in border areas, while also extending to other provinces across the country.<\/a><\/p>\n

At the same time, the armed forces seized 4,638,100 contraband cigarettes, 583 pounds of marijuana, 658 vehicles, 209 motorcycles, and 11 firearms. According to the ERD, these actions aim to combat illegal networks and protect the national economy.<\/p>\n

National Mobilization Around the Games<\/a><\/h5>\n

In a different context, President Luis Abinader<\/span><\/span> is expected to receive the Games torch at the Palacio Nacional<\/span><\/span>, marking the launch of the \u201cRuta Wiche Garc\u00eda Saleta.\u201d<\/p>\n

This symbolic tour will travel across the country\u2019s 31 provinces and the Distrito Nacional<\/span><\/span>, promoting the values of sport and strengthening national unity. The route will begin in Pedernales<\/span><\/span>, following the lighting of the flame in Teotihuac\u00e1n<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n
