Port-au-Prince, March 22, 2026<\/strong> \u2014 Less than three weeks after taking office, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs, Raina Forbin<\/span><\/span>, has stepped up diplomatic efforts on multiple fronts.<\/p>\n

Officially installed on March 4, 2026 by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aim\u00e9<\/span><\/span>, in the presence of her predecessor Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste<\/span><\/span>, the new chancellor outlined key government priorities as early as March 5: restoring security, organizing credible elections, reviving the economy, and reshaping Haiti\u2019s diplomacy. These priorities were reiterated during a series of meetings with the diplomatic corps accredited in Haiti, as well as with the Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

On March 6, she took part in the launch of the Francophonie Fortnight alongside French Ambassador Antoine Michon<\/span><\/span>. On March 8, marking International Women’s Day<\/span><\/span>, she paid tribute to women working within the ministry. On March 13, she initiated dialogue with religious leaders on issues related to social cohesion.<\/p>\n

On the bilateral front, consultations intensified starting March 17. The minister successively met with Peru\u2019s Consul General, Dimitri L\u00e9ger, and Spain\u2019s Ambassador, Marco Antonio Pe\u00f1\u00edn Toledano, focusing on strengthening cooperation, particularly in humanitarian and security areas.<\/p>\n

On March 18, she held talks with U.S. Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires Henry T. Wooster. Discussions focused on the security situation, anti-gang operations, and electoral prospects.<\/p>\n

In the same vein, the chancellor met with the head of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), Carlos Ruiz Massieu, to discuss the UN\u2019s role in supporting the transition, particularly in security and governance.<\/p>\n

Diplomatic engagements continued on March 20 with meetings involving Colombia\u2019s Ambassador Vilma Vel\u00e1squez and Mexico\u2019s Ambassador Jes\u00fas Cisneros. Talks centered on concrete areas of cooperation, including training, agriculture, security, and economic exchanges, according to official statements from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/a><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Minister Forbin accompanied Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aim\u00e9<\/span><\/span> to Chile for the inauguration of President-elect Jos\u00e9 Antonio Kast<\/span><\/span>. In parallel, Haiti has formalized its accession to the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO),<\/a> an initiative dating back to 2024 aimed at strengthening maritime security and modernizing vessel monitoring systems.<\/p>\n
