Uder Antoine: Respecting Electoral Deadlines Is Not an Option, but an Obligation

The President of the Provisional Electoral Council, Jacques Desrosiers, proceeded this Monday, April 20, 2026, with the installation of Uder Antoine as the new executive director of the institution. He replaces Philippe Augustin in this position.

The ceremony took place at the CEP offices in the presence of several dignitaries, including former electoral councilor Jean-Simon St-Hubert and a representative of the United Nations Development Programme.

In his remarks, Jacques Desrosiers highlighted Uder Antoine’s experience, noting that he is the last executive director to have organized elections in Haiti. He indicated that the Council is counting on him to successfully carry out the ongoing electoral process, which has been marked by several adjustments since 2024.

The CEP President also thanked the outgoing director, Philippe Augustin, for his collaboration and commitment within the institution.

For his part, Uder Antoine expressed his gratitude to the Council members for the trust placed in him. He acknowledged the complexity of the current context, characterized by major security, political, and economic challenges, which have a direct impact on the organization of elections.

A former coordinator of the OMRH, he affirms that he understands the magnitude of the task ahead and states that he is determined to act with rigor, integrity, and a sense of responsibility. His primary objective is to restore confidence in the electoral process and to bring it to completion while respecting deadlines. This is not an option, but an obligation, he affirms.

For his part, the outgoing executive director, Philippe Augustin, indicated that the work accomplished remains unfinished, describing the institution as a constantly evolving construction site.

He emphasized that the current CEP is profoundly different from that of previous years, reflecting the ongoing transformations within the Haitian electoral apparatus.
