Three out of five TPC members under U.S. sanctions, Fritz Jean already targeted

Port-au-Prince, January 25, 2026 — The United States has announced the imposition of visa restrictions on two members of Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council (TPC), as well as on their spouses and children, for their alleged involvement in activities linked to gangs in Haiti.

The announcement was made by the U.S. Department of State in a statement signed by Thomas “Tommy” Pigott, Principal Deputy Spokesperson.

According to Washington, the two officials allegedly supported or facilitated the activities of criminal groups, including by interfering with the Haitian authorities’ efforts to combat gangs designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) by the United States.

The sanctions were imposed under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act, which allows the denial of entry into the United States to any person deemed to pose a risk to U.S. foreign policy interests.

Three TPC members now concerned

With this new decision, three out of the five members of the TPC are now under U.S. sanctions.

Fritz Jean had already been sanctioned previously.

Among the four remaining council members who signed the resolution to dismiss Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, two are affected by these new measures.

U.S. authorities have not disclosed the names of the individuals concerned, fueling speculation in political circles. At this stage, no official confirmation has been provided.

The State Department reaffirmed that the United States supports Haiti’s stability, backs the fight against gangs, and will strengthen accountability measures against those involved in destabilizing the country.
