Port-au-Prince, March 31, 2026. — International reactions are mounting following the deadly attacks that struck the locality of Jean-Denis, in Haiti’s Artibonite department, overnight between March 28 and 29. The embassies of the United States and France have both condemned the violence attributed to armed groups, expressing solidarity with victims and the Haitian population.
Washington denounces “terrorist” acts and pledges stronger support
In a statement released Tuesday, the U.S. Embassy said it was “deeply saddened” by the attacks, extending condolences to the victims’ families. It condemned what it described as “terrorist gangs” accused of carrying out killings with disregard for human life.
The U.S. diplomatic mission reaffirmed its support for the Haitian people, describing them as “weary of violence” and aspiring to live in a stable and prosperous country.
In this context, Washington announced the continuation of its assistance to the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Anti-Gang Task Force (FRG).
The latter is expected to receive additional personnel in the coming weeks to intensify operations against armed groups.
Paris condemns “Gran Grif” and highlights UN sanctions
For its part, the French Embassy condemned the attack “in the strongest terms” on Monday, attributing it to the “Gran Grif” gang, which operates in the Artibonite region.
The group is currently under United Nations sanctions due to its involvement in serious human rights violations.
France extended its condolences to the victims’ families and expressed support for survivors and affected communities.
Renewed commitment to Haiti’s security
Paris also reaffirmed its commitment alongside Haitian authorities in the fight against insecurity. This support includes continued assistance to both the Haitian National Police and the Armed Forces of Haiti (FADH) to strengthen their operational capacity.
In addition, France supports broader international efforts aimed at restoring security in the country, including backing initiatives such as the Anti-Gang Task Force deployment.
