Government Adopts 317.7 Billion Gourde Revised Budget

The revised budget, totaling 317.7 billion gourdes, will allow for the reallocation of certain budgetary credits that have low absorption rates or are deemed secondary. These funds will be redirected toward priority sectors, specifically to assist parents during the back-to-school season and support the most vulnerable families.

This 317.7 billion gourde figure represents a 1.8% decrease compared to the initial budget, the government specified.

In practice, the government promises direct support to 200,000 parents through cash transfers to help them manage back-to-school expenses. Additionally, school kits—including notebooks, bags, uniforms, and shoes—are to be distributed to children from the most disadvantaged families.

Furthermore, labor-intensive public works projects will be launched, focusing on school infrastructure, drainage, and street rehabilitation. The official statement noted that this revised budget is an act of good governance and responsibility, aimed at strengthening social cohesion and securing the future of the nation’s children.
