Seguin, April 15, 2026 — The Haiti National Police (PNH) announced it has regained control of the Seguin substation, located in the commune of Marigot, following an armed attack that took place overnight between April 13 and 14.
According to a statement from the police communications department (DICOP), the assault occurred around 3:30 a.m., when several dozen heavily armed individuals launched an attack under adverse weather conditions. The attackers, however, quickly retreated after a response from law enforcement forces.
Reinforcements deployed to secure the area
Units from the Departmental Unit for Maintaining Order (UDMO) were deployed as reinforcements to the area. Police authorities report that these units now control the Seguin post and are securing surrounding zones to prevent any further attacks.
Significant human and material losses
The official toll indicates substantial human and material damage. At least six civilians, who had come to support police officers, were killed during the attack.
Three PNH officers were also injured. In addition, the assailants made off with a generator and two motorcycles, and set fire to three vehicles—two belonging to the police and one to the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC).
Police call for calm
The PNH expressed solidarity with the victims and their families, while assuring that measures are being taken to strengthen security in the Southeast department. Authorities are urging the population to remain calm and reaffirm their commitment to confronting armed groups.
