Haiti Police Kill Suspects, Seize M16 in Port-au-Prince Operation

Major police operation in central Port-au-Prince

The Haitian National Police (PNH) reported that several individuals described as armed bandits were killed and an M16-type assault rifle was seized during a major operation in Port-au-Prince.

According to authorities, the intervention forms part of ongoing efforts to restore circulation and secure areas recently retaken from armed groups in the capital.

Strategic zones targeted

In a statement released by the Directorate of Police Communication (DICOP), officials said the operation, launched on March 16, focused on several strategic locations, including:

  • Fort Saint-Clair

  • Rue Chavannes

  • Chancerelles

  • Boulevard Jean-Jacques Dessalines

  • Rue des Casernes

  • Rue Oswald Durand

  • Areas surrounding Stade Sylvio Cator

  • Portail Léogâne

These zones have been identified as critical corridors affected by armed group activity and barricades.

Armed individuals dislodged, barricades dismantled

Police forces reported that they dislodged armed individuals occupying these المناطق and dismantled barricades set up to block traffic.

The operation deployed significant logistical resources, including:

  • Seven armored vehicles

  • Heavy equipment used to remove debris and obstacles

Authorities said these measures were necessary to clear roads and restore mobility across key urban routes.

Gradual return to normal activity

The PNH stated that the operation aims to reopen public roads and facilitate the gradual resumption of commercial and social activities in affected neighborhoods.

Officials presented the intervention as part of a broader strategy to reestablish state authority in areas long impacted by insecurity.

Ongoing efforts to restore security

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continuing such operations until security is fully restored in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.

The capital remains affected by persistent violence and population displacement, underscoring the challenges facing law enforcement agencies.
