Arrest carried out in Pétion-Ville
Former Haitian MP Arnel Bélizaire was arrested on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in Pétion-Ville by officers of the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ), according to multiple police sources.
The arrest took place at the Royal Oasis, where the former parliamentarian was reportedly located at the time of the operation.
Authorities said the intervention followed intelligence gathering that confirmed his presence at the hotel.
Arrest follows recent political party registration
The arrest comes just three days after Bélizaire registered his political party with the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) on March 11 in Pétion-Ville.
This timing has drawn attention, as the former lawmaker had recently taken steps to re-enter the political landscape.
Subject of prior police search notice
According to police officials, Arnel Bélizaire was already the subject of a wanted notice issued by the DCPJ prior to his arrest.
Law enforcement authorities had reportedly been tracking his movements before carrying out the operation.
Serious charges cited by authorities
Authorities accuse the former MP of involvement in several serious offenses, including:
Financing of terrorism
Attack and conspiracy against state security
Criminal association
These allegations place the case within a broader context of national security concerns and ongoing efforts to combat organized crime in Haiti.
Investigation ongoing
At this stage, police have not disclosed further details regarding the evidence supporting the charges or potential accomplices.
The case is expected to proceed through the judicial system as authorities continue their investigation.
