During a press conference held on Monday, April 20, lawyers Germain Louis and Stravinsky Jean-Baptiste called on the State to intervene without delay to dismantle gang bases, particularly in Savien.
The president of the organization known as “Sindika Plantè Vizyonè pou devploman vale latibonit,” René Charles, confirmed that this movement will result in a total blockade of traffic on National Road Number One at this strategic axis until further notice.
He specified that this is not an economic movement, but a citizen mobilization aimed at forcing the State to ensure security.
The movement’s initiators announce the closure of schools, banks, and public administrations. Only essential services, such as hospitals, the police, and the Red Cross, will remain operational through the establishment of a humanitarian corridor.
Furthermore, Paul Polix, coordinator of Konbit Bas Artibonite, warned that armed groups could take advantage of the patronal festivities in Saint-Marc scheduled for April 25 to sow chaos in the region. He calls on the authorities to prevent any deterioration of the situation.
The organizers insist: the mobilization will continue as long as concrete measures are not taken to neutralize the gangs.
They urge the population to join the movement, believing it to be a matter of collective survival in the face of “State” insecurity that they describe as structural and planned.
