Princess EUD Returns to Haiti, Joé Dwèt Filé and Fally Ipupa Release “Doucement”

Haiti

Haitian singer and rapper Princess EUD has announced her return to Haiti after several years abroad. In a video shared on Instagram, the artist expressed a renewed connection to her country of origin, despite the challenging national context.

Haitian art figure Mireille Pérodin-Jérôme passed away on April 8, 2023, in Kenscoff at the age of 70. A leading figure in Haitian art, she was a respected critic, gallery owner, and curator whose work left a lasting impact on the Ateliers Jean-René Jérôme and contributed to the renewal of the Centre d’Art.

Diaspora

Haitian designer Phelicia Dell presented her collection “Timeless Elegance” during the Echoes of Elegance gala in Florida. The collection blends contemporary luxury codes with elements inspired by Haitian craftsmanship.

The track “Doucement,” a collaboration between Joé Dwèt Filé and Fally Ipupa, bridges Haitian kompa and Congolese rumba. The song incorporates multiple languages, including French and Lingala, reflecting a cross-cultural musical approach.

A live session organized by RFI brought together Dominique Fils-Aimé and Temenik Electric, featuring performances from their recent projects. Dominique Fils-Aimé emphasized live recording techniques, while Temenik Electric showcased a repertoire influenced by rock and North African sounds.

Musician Carlo Vieux released the music video for “Siwo,” in collaboration with Paska. The track continues his solo journey following his time with Carimi, combining emotional themes with a fusion of kompa and contemporary sounds.

International

The series Bandi, created by Éric Rochant, is set in Martinique. The narrative follows members of the same family facing challenges related to poverty and crime, while exploring themes of solidarity and tension.

The AfricaMuseum is conducting, in collaboration with institutions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a research program on the provenance of objects acquired during the colonial period. The initiative aims to document acquisition conditions and assess the possibility of restitution, contributing to broader discussions on heritage and historical accountability.
