Migration: nearly 100,000 Haitians expelled in three months
The Dirección General de Migración reported the deportation of 99,268 undocumented migrants during the first quarter of 2026, including 99,250 Haitian nationals.
Authorities stated that these expulsions were carried out in accordance with Law 285-04 and existing protocols, emphasizing compliance with human rights standards.
In March alone, 31,310 Haitians were returned to their country of origin, highlighting a marked escalation in enforcement operations.
The actions were conducted in coordination with the armed forces and the national police, totaling 781 operations across multiple provinces, including Santo Domingo, Pedernales, Elías Piña, La Altagracia, Independencia, Dajabón and the National District.
The migration authority reaffirmed its hardline stance, stating that no pause will be granted in the enforcement of immigration laws, with the objective of ensuring a “legal and orderly” foreign presence in the Dominican Republic.
