Port-au-Prince: immigration officials released after questioning

Port-au-Prince, March 27, 2026. The Director of Immigration, Antoine Jean Simon Fénelon, along with nine members of his team, was released on Friday after appearing before the Port-au-Prince prosecutor’s office.

The officials from the Directorate of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) had been arrested on March 23 by the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) as part of an investigation into alleged irregularities in passport issuance.

High-security hearing highlights sensitivity of case

Under heavy police escort, the individuals were brought before Government Commissioner Fritz Patterson Dorval, who led the questioning.

The significant security measures in place underscored the high-profile nature of the case.

Released but still under investigation

Following the hearing, judicial authorities decided to release the officials while keeping the investigation open.

Authorities emphasized that the probe is ongoing and aims to clarify unresolved aspects of the alleged passport irregularities.

Travel ban imposed as probe continues

Pending the outcome of the investigation, those involved have been placed under a travel restriction, preventing them from leaving the country.

The case remains active as authorities continue efforts to determine the full extent of the alleged scheme.
