Pétion-Ville: fugitive suspect arrested after years in hiding

Pétion-Ville, March 27, 2026. The Haitian National Police (PNH) announced the arrest of Vundla Sikhumbuzo, a Zimbabwean national who had been actively wanted since 2019, according to a statement from the police communications department (DICOP).

The operation was carried out on Thursday, March 26, 2026, by units of the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ), including the Brigade for Research and Intervention (BRI) and the Brigade for the Protection of Minors (BPM).

Authorities confirmed that the arrest was made based on a warrant issued by investigating judge Noé Pierre-Louis Massillon, attached to the Court of Appeal of Port-au-Prince.

Serious charges including arms trafficking and attempted murder

According to police sources, the suspect is under investigation for several serious offenses, including illicit arms trafficking, linked to the so-called Episcopal Church case, as well as attempted murder against his spouse and criminal association.

Authorities also accuse Sikhumbuzo of kidnapping and holding his three minor children since 2019, a situation that reportedly forced them to stop attending school.

Suspect handed over to judicial authorities

The suspect has been transferred to the appropriate judicial authorities and is expected to face prosecution for the charges against him.

In its statement, the Haitian National Police reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing individuals involved in criminal activities, particularly those threatening public safety and family stability.
