Carel Pedre returns as new music releases and cultural updates shape Haiti and its diaspora

Haiti

Carel Pedre, founder of Chokarella, spoke on March 22, 2026, in a video shared on his platform and social media. The statement follows his release on February 27 after 68 days in detention. In the video, he provides an update and reflects on the period, which he describes as “deeply transformative.”

On the music scene, Vanessa Désiré released the music video for “Ou tap ri m” on March 20, the fourth visual from her second album released in November 2025. The 13-track project blends kompa, rap, afrobeat, and R&B, and includes a collaboration with Wendyyy. The track reflects amapiano influences.

Meanwhile, Baky and Carel Pedre announced an upcoming interview titled “286 Tour Interview,” scheduled for March 24 at 7 p.m., ahead of the artist’s 286 Tour.

In sports, Wadeline Jonathas finished 4th in the women’s 400m at the 2026 World Indoor Athletics Championships held in Toruń, Poland, from March 20 to 22. She recorded a time of 51.07 seconds, setting a new national record.

Additionally, Abigaïl Alexandre, a law student and finalist of Eloquentia International, was honored on March 20 at the Haitian Embassy in France. She will compete in the international final on March 25 at La Seine Musicale.

Diaspora

Martinican singer Lionel Nidaud released the first part of his album “Mon Histoire” on March 18. The nine-track zouk project features artists including Rutshelle Guillaume, Fanny J, and Nesly. The album is structured as a narrative about a romantic relationship and is produced by Association Kréol.

Artist Richy Jay released “Caribbean Love” on March 20, a 10-track, 31-minute album recorded in Montreal. The project blends kompa, zouk, and afropop influences and includes collaborations with Rebecca Jean and Jessie Simmons.

Haitian influencer Ariana Milagro Lafond is participating in the 8th edition of House of Challenge, held in West Africa from March 21 to April 11, 2026. She arrived in Togo on March 22 and represents Haiti among 12 contestants. The competition focuses on social innovation and youth leadership.

International

Posters spotted in Paris have reignited speculation about a possible return to the stage by Céline Dion. These visuals, along with a recent social media message, have fueled discussions, although no official announcement has been made. The singer had reduced public appearances in recent years due to health issues but notably appeared during the Jeux olympiques de Paris 2024.
