Dominican Republic Boosts U.S. Border Security, Haiti Trade Talks

Dajabón: Joint Dominican–U.S. inspection boosts border security

The Dominican Republic has stepped up its security cooperation with the United States following a joint inspection at the border in Dajabón.

Minister of Defense Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre led the visit alongside U.S. Ambassador Leah Campos, as part of efforts to reinforce territorial security and bilateral coordination.

Dominican Republic: Sensitive Meeting in Dajabón and Energy Vigilance Amid Middle East Crisis

The delegation inspected sections of the perimeter fence and the official border crossing, observing daily commercial and social activity in the area.

Dominican authorities showcased surveillance and control measures implemented by the armed forces and security agencies, aimed at maintaining order while supporting local economic activity.

Senior military officials also attended, including Army Commander Carlos Antonio Camino Pérez, along with representatives of the Specialized Land Border Security Corps (CESFRONT).

Operational strategies and troop deployments were presented as part of broader efforts to strengthen border protection.

This visit reflects ongoing initiatives to enhance bilateral trust and cooperation between the Dominican Republic and the United States in response to regional security challenges.

CODEVI: Dominican and Haitian entrepreneurs push economic cooperation

At the same time, business leaders from the Dominican Republic and Haiti met at the CODEVI Free Trade Zone to discuss bilateral trade and cross-border cooperation.

The discussions focused on:

  • Regional economic and political relations

  • Trade opportunities and investment conditions

  • Security challenges affecting Haiti

Participants emphasized the importance of a regulated and balanced framework to promote sustainable investment and economic growth.

The National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP), represented by César Dargam, highlighted the role of monetary policy in maintaining economic stability, according to information reported by Listín Diario.

Private sector backs stability efforts in Haiti

Entrepreneurs expressed support for national and international initiatives aimed at restoring public order in Haiti, while stressing the need for:

  • Transparency in trade exchanges

  • Trust between economic partners

  • Stable conditions for cross-border business

The meeting underscores the central role of the private sector in fostering economic resilience and regional growth.

Security and trade at the heart of regional strategy

The combination of strengthened security coordination at the border and renewed economic dialogue highlights a dual strategy pursued by Dominican authorities and their partners.

By linking security and economic cooperation, stakeholders aim to stabilize border regions, facilitate trade, and support regional development amid ongoing challenges in Haiti.
