Haiti

The 2026 Francophonie Fortnight was launched on March 6 in Haiti by Foreign Affairs Minister Raina Forbin. Held under the theme of youth engagement, the two-week event will feature conferences, film screenings, and cultural meetings aimed at promoting the French language and cultural diversity, with support from the International Organization of La Francophonie.

The National Library of Haiti also launched the first edition of the Grand National Reading Competition on March 3, 2026, during a ceremony held at the Karibe Hotel. Dedicated to the work of writer René Depestre as part of the celebration of his centenary, the competition is organized under the theme “Let’s Make Reading a National Celebration.” The initiative aims to promote reading and Haitian literary heritage, with prizes reaching up to 400,000 gourdes.

In sports, Haitian athletes continue to inspire pride on the international stage. During the 2026 Winter Olympics, skiers Richardson Viano and Stevenson Savart represented the country. Meanwhile, Haiti’s national football team will compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in June 2026, marking its first participation since 1974.

After his release, Haitian media host Carel Pedre has reappeared on social media, particularly on Instagram. Images shared by DJ K9 suggest a possible return of the show “De tout et de rien,” which had been suspended following his arrest, hinting at a gradual comeback to his media activities.

Haitian rapper Woodterrib released on March 6, 2026, the music video for “Chwal Nwa,” the first visual from his album of the same name. Published on YouTube, the video presents a minimalist aesthetic echoing the song’s themes of resistance, perseverance, and hope.

Diaspora

Haitian singer Fatima Altieri performed at the fifth edition of Nuit Blanche, organized by Secret Paradise Events in Paris, delivering several songs before the audience. The artist also thanked the organizers and attendees who came to witness the performance.

In Montreal, the 8th edition of the Festival Théâtre Communauté des Noirs (Fethécomnoirs) was launched on February 28, 2026, by the Compagnie Théâtre Créole. Under the theme “Get Involved in Your Community,” the festival runs until March 26 and features theater performances, staged readings, workshops, and artistic meetings, including a tribute evening dedicated to Haitian artist Ansy Derose.

Also in Canada, the band KAI led by Richard Cavé will continue promoting its new album “I’m OK” with a concert scheduled for April 5, 2026, at MTELUS in Montreal. The event, titled “THE SHOW | MTL,” will also feature DJs Star-Q, Bullet, and K9.

The Haitian Diaspora Forum will take place from April 17 to 19, 2026, in Montreal at the Centre de Congrès La Renaissance. The gathering aims to bring together members of the diaspora, encourage collaboration between local and international actors, and promote projects related to Haiti’s development.

In Brooklyn, the exhibition “JAKMÈL | The Unveiling of Kanaval” is currently on display at Haiti Cultural Exchange. Dedicated to the carnival of Jacmel, the exhibition highlights the artistic and cultural heritage of the tradition through visual works, installations, and archives, and will remain open to the public until March 29, 2026.

Former WNBA star Marie Ferdinand-Harris will also be honored at an event organized in Fort Lauderdale by CLÉ Haitian Sisterhood for International Women’s Day, featuring speeches, networking opportunities, and a musical performance by Mac D from the group Harmonik.

International

American singer Britney Spears was arrested on March 4, 2024, in Ventura County, California, for driving under the influence. According to several U.S. media outlets, she was stopped by the California Highway Patrol and briefly taken into custody before being released under a “cite and release” procedure. Reports indicate that the artist expressed regret and became emotional during the arrest.
