Dominican Republic Arrests 787 and Deports 790 in Nationwide Migration Operations

The Army of the Dominican Republic reported that more than 14,000 Haitian nationals were detained in February while attempting to cross the border.

Army Commander Iván Camino Pérez stated that the individuals were intercepted during border control operations and subsequently handed over to the Dirección General de Migración (DGM) for the corresponding legal procedures.

According to military officials, hundreds of migrants are intercepted daily in the border zone, particularly in the province of Dajabón, considered a strategic crossing point into Dominican territory.

The commander affirmed that the border remains “under control” due to reinforced patrols and the supervision of the 10th Infantry Battalion. Continuous surveillance operations are being carried out to contain irregular entries.

The situation highlights ongoing migration pressure between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, amid a broader regional context marked by instability and security challenges.
