Haitian Cultural Scene 2026: Daan Junior, Carlo Vieux Tour, Carel Pedre Released

Nuevos sencillos, homenajes y eventos internacionales marcan el dinamismo de la música y la cultura haitiana en Haití y la diáspora.

Twenty years after his debut, Daan Junior continues promoting his seventh album C’est dommage with the music video “Kisa Pou m fè,” a duet with Fabiola Shyne. Released on February 26, 2026, the video portrays a relationship marked by emotional ambivalence, balancing attachment and separation.

Meanwhile, Carlo Vieux has announced five dates for his first solo tour, the “Retounen Tour 2026,” just months after releasing his album in November 2025. Scheduled stops include Montreal (May 2), Boston (May 22), as well as Miami, New York, and Haiti — marking a new chapter nearly a decade after the breakup of CaRiMi.

On the business front, Mabï Artisanal Tea has become the first Haitian-Caribbean beverage sold at the Burj Khalifa. The brand signed a distribution agreement in the United Arab Emirates and across the Gulf region, marking a new milestone for Haitian cultural products on the international market.

Journalist and founder of Chokarella, Carel Pedre, was released on February 27, 2026, following a judicial decision granting him bail. Detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Krome Detention Center, he has since reunited with his family, according to a statement from Chokarella.

The Los Angeles Tribune highlights filmmaker Alain Martin and his documentary The Forgotten Occupation: Jim Crow Goes to Haiti, which examines the U.S. occupation of Haiti (1915–1934). The film explores the political and economic impacts of that period on Haitian institutions and land ownership.
