As the year ends, wishes are exchanged and promises renewed. But does making wishes still have meaning when uncertainty remains total? Can we hope without clarifying where we will actually be by the end of next year?
Throughout 2025, our civic forums have questioned the meaning of public action and the citizen’s place in a country losing its collective bearings. The haunting question remains: where is the country going? It is not just about who governs, but in what direction. A country can keep moving forward while being utterly lost if its path is no longer guided by a shared goal.
This is where the Constitution becomes necessary—not just as a set of rules, but as a project. Our Charter speaks of the “pursuit of happiness.” A State that guarantees neither security nor dignity fails in its very reason for being.
As February 7, 2026, approaches—the date set for the end of the Transitional Presidential Council—the path remains blurred. Governing by dates alone, without a clear vision, is not a political project. Responsible wishes for the New Year must reject illusion and demand clarity on the direction ahead.
To our readers who followed this civic voice throughout 2025: your support reminds us that democratic vigilance is a shared responsibility. Let us wish that 2026 ceases to be governed by deadlines without perspectives, and that the “pursuit of happiness” becomes a reality for every Haitian.
