Haiti Strengthens Dialogue with IMF and World Bank

On October 16, 2025, on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), alongside Economy and Finance Minister Alfred Fils Métellus, participated in a series of strategic meetings with high-level IMF officials on October 13 and 14.

These discussions helped strengthen the dialogue between Haiti and international financial institutions, focusing on the continuity and consolidation of ongoing economic reforms.

During his address, BRH Governor Gabriel Ronald highlighted the progress made in economic and financial policies, specifically regarding fiscal discipline, macroeconomic stabilization, and the strengthening of the financial system’s prudential framework. He also emphasized the stability of the exchange rate, the results of the national financial inclusion strategy, and the buildup of net foreign exchange reserves.

Haiti at the G24: Paving the Way for Fairer Multilateralism

On October 14, 2025, Governor Gabriel Ronald also addressed the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of 24 (G24). He noted that “multilateralism is at a decisive turning point,” calling for reinforced international cooperation, increased support for fragile states, and better coordination with multilateral development banks. According to him, the future of vulnerable economies like Haiti depends on a global partnership that is fairer, more inclusive, and more supportive.

Modernizing the Payment System

On October 13, 2025, a BRH delegation met with representatives from the Central Bank of Brazil to discuss the “PIX” instant payment system—a model of financial and technological success. This meeting provided insights into the governance and institutional coordination that led to PIX’s success in modernizing payments and boosting financial inclusion in Brazil.

The BRH aims to evaluate this experience to modernize Haiti’s national payment system, fostering innovation and expanding access to secure, modern financial services.
